Direct seismic loss estimation of predominantly plan‐symmetrical frame buildings using simplified nonlinear models

The estimation of building seismic risk and loss utilising response history analysis is challenging, especially because the final objective for stock. In this paper, challenge addressed by developing a simplified nonlinear structural model, which capable simulating predominantly plan-symmetrical reinforced concrete frame buildings subjected to ground motions in both horizontal directions. model plugged into direct methodology. Its capabilities are then demonstrated estimating losses four-storey office five-storey school building. For analysed buildings, it shown that frequency collapse, expected annual exceedance given can be simulated with same level accuracy as case conventional but greater numerical robustness computational efficiency. Research needed better define limitations introduced extend models more complex systems plan-asymmetrical buildings.
